Disney Cruises to Hawaii

disney hawaii cruise

A lot of travelers on a budget who still want to experience Aulani may want to book a one or two night stay and spend additional nights at a more moderately priced hotel elsewhere on O’ahu. Disney Cruises in North America, in contrast, are a minimum of a three night price commitment. To help illustrate general costs, I priced out sample 4 night vacations for a family of four on the same dates. Since Aulani doesn’t include food like DCL, I budgeted $250 for a family per day.

On a recent sailing, I saw Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto all in 30 minutes. I hate taking tender ships, which can feel like a bit of a time sink, so this is a big bonus to me. Thank you “R” and Lisa Schneiderman for both taking the time to collect and share information from this sailing. Trips With Tykes is a family travel blog devoted to simplifying the logistics of traveling with kids of all ages. With a little knowledge of airline rules & good planning, family travel can be really rewarding, even if it still involves the occasional battle with TSA over your toddler's juice box.

Top picks to be more sustainable this Earth Day

They sail roundtrip to Hawaii from Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. Ships spend long days in port, and a variety of restaurants and events, like movies screened under the stars, are sure to keep you and yours entertained on board the ship. And while 10 might seem like a lot of sea days, skipping the airport could be a priceless vacation upgrade. Disney Cruise Line offers two connecting kids clubs, the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab, included in the cruise cost.

Scheduled Ports of Call

As you can probably imagine, however, space is a little easier to come by on land than on sea. Larger suites and condos are ultimately a bit more readily available at Aulani. For fellow West Coast families, the logistics of getting to Hawaii can be quite simple. And they are even simpler and cheaper now that Southwest Airlines has been flying to Hawaii the last several years. I’m a California girl and can travel to Hawaii on an easy 5 hour flight.

Disney Cruise Line & Aulani Vacation Deals!

We found there simply isn’t a Disney cruise that we could travel to and sail on in the time allotted without having her miss at least one day of school. Both Disney Cruise Line and Aulani offer a vacation experience that is very different from the Disney parks. A trip to Disney World or Disneyland means a lot of walking and logistics navigating theme park lines day after day.

Stay Connected

If you simply want a break from the kids here and there and can plan ahead, it will suit just fine. If you have someone with known motion sickness issues of any significance, a cruise may be a gamble you just don’t want to take. This may seem like a small consideration but it matters in a big way.

Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina

Before I dive into the differences between these two vacations, let’s start with the similarities. Disney Aulani (which opened in Ko Olina on O’ahu in 2011) was very much modeled after Disney Cruise Line (which launched in 1998). In fact, Aulani was designed to bring much of the Disney Cruise experience to land.

It isn’t yet known where the Disney Wonder will sail after the March 2024 Hawaii cruise as these sailings have not been released yet. When I am not working I love travelling, crafting, photography, playing board games, and planning vacations. With The Vacationeer, you’ll have a dedicated agent to handle every aspect of your trip, so you won’t need to deal with multiple agents.

disney hawaii cruise

But DCL is better when traveling with just your immediate family because it is easier for teens to make and meet friends on board. You can probably sense my frustration at the current pared back state of affairs. If you need or want meaningful included childcare, Aulani’s offering doesn’t make the grade at the moment.

Aulani is located between the mountains and the ocean on Oahu and offers luxurious accommodations and excellent Disney service. This resort perfectly embodies the island’s beauty, culture, and hospitality and features various Disney-themed activities and entertainment, including encounters with beloved Disney Characters and themed pools. If you wish to add air travel, ground transportation, or a hotel stay to your Disney cruise package, we suggest working with a Disney travel planner like The Vacationeer. Taxis are readily available at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) for travel to the Port of Honolulu’s Pier 2 Cruise Terminal.

All of these cruises include several days at sea for guests to enjoy fine dining and onboard entertainment on the Disney Wonder. Guests can also personalize their packages with Port Adventures excursions for an immersive experience in each destination. Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island.

They can assist you with everything from finding the cheapest month to cruise, securing last-minute Disney cruise deals, understanding tipping policies, and finding discounts on your Disney cruise package. They work tirelessly to ensure you find the perfect cruise that meets your vacation goals at the best possible price. You can combine your Disney cruise reservation with pre- or post-cruise accommodations at three Disney affiliate hotels in Vancouver. These calculations suggest that Uber X or Uber Green is the best way to save money on Disney cruise transportation.

Cessna 182 Turbo Skylane: Business Turbo for the Family Man

cessna 182 cruise speed

Customers in the high-risk category, such as student pilots, will find those ranges increased to $375-$750 and $1200-$1900, adding up to between $1575 and $2650. The instrument panel adopted the new industry standard basic-T shape, and the horizontal stabilizer was increased by 10 inches to improve low-speed elevator response. Instead of incremental flap positioning, the 182F had preset positions. Many owners have reported this figure to be a little on the optimistic side. The O-470 is still renowned for its reliability, but most will require cylinder work before reaching 1500 hours, occasionally even speeding up the overhaul.

Anti-icing and De-icing Systems for Aircraft- Options and How They Work

While the General Aviation Revitalization Act was signed in 1994, it took another three years for a new Skylane to leave the production line, a Cessna 182S model. The Cessna 182 has gone through many iterations since its introduction in 1956, and therefore specifications have gone through plenty of changes over the years. There are two major factors in the Skylane, which Cessna allowed owners to mix and match based on their needs and budget. This becomes especially significant during more extended flights, where the additional space can make a considerable difference in passenger comfort.

What Are The Main Differences Between The C182 Skylane Vs The C172 Skyhawk

After the engine stabilizes, reach over and pull your mixture control out to lean the engine. Pilots who learn to limit excess fuel will reduce the buildup of combustion chamber lead deposits, save fuel and won’t induce rapid combustion chamber temperature changes. It’s wise to create an airplane-specific checklist that better reflects the equipment installed on your airplane. For instance, if aftermarket speed brakes have been installed, a pre-takeoff operational check is not on the Cessna checklist in the owner’s manual or POH. It cannot do bush flying as well as the Cessna 180, it is not as cheap as the Cessna 172, and it cannot do aerobatics like certain Cessna 150 models. What the 182 does do well, though, is deliver perfectly adequate yet ordinary performance every time.

However, Cessna manuals suggest that power be reduced to approximately 75 percent, 23 inches and 2,400 rpm during cruise climb. The aircraft initially had the iconic square-tipped vertical stabilizer in its first models, but this was replaced with a swept one in 1960 with the introduction of the Cessna 182C. To help with ground stability, the 182D in 1961 shortened the landing gear legs. Original Skylane models are slightly more responsive and maneuverable, with a wing loading of 15.2 lbs/sq ft. The weight increase over the years increased this value to 17.8 lbs/sq ft.

Carnival Cruise Line Stock Prices

Although these changes only brought the weight of the aircraft up by 10 pounds, climb, takeoff performance, and its service ceiling were all reduced. While the minuscule horsepower increase by itself made no difference in climb or cruise, one might logically have expected the shift from fixed to retractable gear to yield more than 12 knots of speedup. One explanation may be that a standard Skylane would be working hard to generate 144 knots, whereas virtually all the Skylane RGs could score 156 knots. In other words, the real gap between the two models may have been slightly greater than book numbers suggest. The turbocharged version is significantly faster after its easy climb into the low teens, where it can achieve 165 knots TAS and more at higher altitudes. The normally aspirated R182 climbs well, too, with 1000 FPM typical at lower altitudes at gross weight and standard temperature.

We try to put the facts down so that you will understand which aircraft is best for your needs.

cessna 182 cruise speed

Retiring an Aircraft – End-of-Life Recycling and Repurposing of Aircraft Parts

The “T” in the designation stood for the turbocharger on the Lycoming O-540-L3C5D engine, which greatly increased performance and fuel efficiency at higher altitudes at the cost of increased maintenance hours. Founded in 1927 by Clyde Cessna, the Cessna Aircraft Company has become synonymous with reliability, innovation, and a commitment to pilot-centric design. From small, single-engine planes to larger, more complex aircraft, Cessna has consistently set the standard for what a private aircraft should be.

Those who’ve explored the airspace above 14,500 feet, however, know that there are other benefits to high flight. First, you’ll most often top all the weather rather than having to slog along in the scud down below. Turbulence is minimal at higher altitudes, and terrain clearance most often isn’t even a consideration.

Skyhawk Comparison

Flying the RG is reminiscent of flying a standard Skylane in almost all respects. It’s true that the numbers on the gauge at cruise are a little higher, but that’s hardly noticeable in the way the airplane handles, especially during takeoff and landing. Liftoffs are a decidedly casual affair with only 235 hp pushing 3100 pounds of airplane. The turbo surge grants the airplane notably more enthusiasm, but you need to monitor the power manually, as the wastegate isn’t automatic. The engine is essentially turbo-normalized rather than turbo-supercharged, with maximum manifold pressure set at 31 inches. This also means any change in manifold pressure, rpm, or mixture dictates changes to all other settings.

Pushing the mixture forward will dump unneeded fuel into the mixture and cause a rapid change in internal cylinder temperatures. Lycoming service instruction SI 1505 says preheating is required at temperatures below 10° F (–12° C) except for -76 engines, where the low limits are 20° F (–6.6° C). Partially burned fuel that is pushed past the compression rings into the engine case is one of the causes of sludge and carbon formation. I, being a mechanic and a man that believes “if you have it with you, it won’t be needed,” always tied down my 60-pound toolbox in the baggage compartment, especially when I was flying by myself. The Skylane, however, lives up to this expectation, putting its runway requirements just slightly above aircraft equipped with Roberston STOL conversions.

This test is to determine if the governor works; a couple of 100 rpm drops is all that’s needed. Always lean on the ground—idling with a rich mixture is the quickest way to foul spark plugs. That’s because the lead scavenging additive in 100LL is only active at higher combustion temperatures (900° F or higher). Since the additive doesn’t work at lower temperatures, leaning is the only way to reduce lead fouling at lower power settings. After some experimentation, I found that the sweet spot for oil was nine quarts in the Continental O-470-R engine in my 182.

Careful airspeed, pitch and power control on final approach are important to avoid prodigious rates of descent on the back side of the power curve or long airspeed-dissipation glides over the concrete. I think a lot of this has to do with the small high-pressure tires (50 PSI nose, 68 PSI main). My choice was between a 210 and a 182 RG and I figured with the 210, I would be dragging a whole lot of expensive empty metal behind me most of the time.

Its high cost is justified by its popularity and versatility of flight mission capabilities. Cessna gave the original 182s a Continental O-470-L engine with 230 horsepower, which remained consistent by some variation in each Skylane model for 30 years. The first redesign of the Cessna 182 was the 182A which had wider and lower landing gear as well as external baggage. Gross weight increased from 2550 pounds from the original 182 to 2650 pounds for the 182A. The Cessna 182 burns 13.8 gallons of fuel per hour while traveling at recommended altitude and a cruising speed of 167 miles per hour.

The new generation of Skylanes also features the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit. It’s hard to imagine a communication and navigation system with more talent. We’ve expounded on the virtues of the G1000 many times before, so we won’t belabor the point here, but the G1000 brings essentially all the tricks of airline cockpits to the ranks of general aviation. A nosegear issue is to check the lock pins for movement and replace the plastic spring with metal, per service bulletin.

One of the most important questions you can ask is where do I plan to go. If you are looking to travel long cross-country trips that span more than 600 nm, the Cessna 182 would be your better bet. But if you only see yourself traveling distances of under 600 nm then the Cessna 172 would be a better buy. For context, The Cessna 182 has a range of about 930 nm, this is roughly the distance between New York and Florida.
